Venice Peacock

Peacock inspired ball gown

It took little persuading (but some organisation) to convince Anachronalia to head out to Venice Carnivale. This was the first costume I started making for the trip and the last to be completed (with much other crafting along the way). It began with a beautiful custom made corset from Wyte Phantom and the theme of birds.

The end result is a multilayered outfit comprising of an underskirt made of purple satin and sari border, a broad shaped waistband embellished with lace, ribbon and jewels to which the back drape or ribbon trimmed silk attaches to create the tail of the peacock. The cropped jacket is made of tafetta and velvet, trimmed in the same lace, and there is matching embellishment om both the shoes and mask. Hair jewelry of multiple chains with peacock feathers and a 1920s inspired head dress was also created from scratch as part of the outfit.

The setting for our photos wasn't the most glamorous due to the weather in Venice that day and our lack of palazzo, but it was certainly easy to feel every inch the peacock.

While it would not be possible to exactly replicate this design, I'd be happy to discuss any ideas for similar outfits you might have as well as pricing and possibilities to suit a wide range of budgets.
